The CFF held a Special General Meeting on October 19. The morning panel focussed on the implications of the Vancouver Instructors' Association (later called the VCCFA) strike in September 1974. VIA pickets were supported by VCC Langara and Capilano instructors. With the NDP now in power, and faculty associations given the right to certify as unions, professional development took a back seat to labour relations. Ed Lavalle, from the new Labour Studies Program at Capilano, spoke on the need for student support, sharing information quickly, a strike fund, and "that some academics would have to learn that, sometimes, strike action is necessary...."
