In March 2004, Premier Campbell and UBC President Martha Piper announced that UBC would be taking over OUC's north campus, leaving a reconfigured college with the KLO campus in downtown Kelowna, and its regional campuses. The same month, the government announced that University-College of the Cariboo would be made a university, becoming Thompson Rivers University in 2005.

The 2004 AGM authorized a name change from CIEA to FPSE, as we were no longer only college and institute faculty.
