CIEA joined the Canadian Association of University Teachers, and, after six years as members of the BC Federation of Labour, also joined the Canadian Labour Congress through the National Union of CAUT (NUCAUT). Maureen Shaw was the first President of NUCAUT and sat for two terms followed by Dileep Athaide (1 term), George Davison (2 terms), and Terri Van Steinburg (1 year and current).
